Merdeka’s commitment towards ESG and Sustainability is, among others,reflected by the establishment of Committees to implement, coordinate and monitor our ESG and Sustainability activities.
Net Zero
Sustainability is the foundation of the way Merdeka Group conducts its business and we recognize the need to address climate change and the importance of our role in contributing to climate change solutions.
As an Indonesian company involved in mining, industry, and construction, Merdeka Group aligns, and commits itself with the relevant Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC’s) of Indonesia.
Merdeka Group shall be collaboratively involved in selected Climate Change initiatives, explore and implement innovative energy efficiencies or alternatives, and engage in carbon off-setting programs towards achieving the following goals for our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions:
- A 29% reduction in GHG emission intensity by 2030 compared to our baseline in 2021; and
- Zero-net emissions by 2050.
Committees
ESG & Sustainability Committee
Merdeka’s ESG and Sustainability Committee has been established to setstrategy and support the Company’s ESG and sustainability programs. Chaired by the Vice President Director, the committee members consist of the Executive Committee, Operational General Managers, and Support Function General Managers.
Risk Management Committee
Merdeka’s Risk Management committee reviews existing and potential risks within the business. The scope includes social, environmental, health and safety risks, and risks associated with climate change that may impact or result from our operations.. Chaired by the Vice President Director, the committee members consist of the Executive Committee, Operational General Managers, and Risk Manager.
Health and Safety Committee
Merdeka’s Health and Safety Committee monitors Health and Safety performance of the company with a focus on continual prevention and improvement. Chaired by the Vice President Director, the committee members consist of Operational Executives, General Managers, and HSE Managers.
Tailings Dam Committee
The Tailings Dam Committeewas established to referencing to the ICMM (The International Council on Mining and Metals) Standard on Tailings Management. Chaired by the Chief Operating Officer, the committee members consist of Operational General Managers and Technical Services Managers.
