Rehabilitation

Merdeka works by the Law concerning Environmental Management and Protection and its relevant implementing regulations. Environmental management and monitoring are implemented based on the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan which are reported each quarter to the Provincial Environmental Agency at each mine site.

We carry out our rehabilitation process and remediation of ecosystems in a sequential manner to maximise benefits to the environment and surrounding communities.

Rehabilitation program involves replanting of pioneer, local, and multi-purpose tree species (MPTS) and monitoring the progress every six  months.

Merdeka includes rehabilitation as part of the life-cycle of our operations. We plan and design for mine closure in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders to meet agreed closure and post-closure commitments that provide sustainable benefits.
